Dr. Michael McNamara is one of Alaska’s best orthopedic surgeons with 30 years of expertise in treating hand, elbow, and shoulder conditions. Dr. McNamara received his medical degree from the University of Washington in 1987, followed by his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in 1993. Building upon this foundation, he pursued specialized training at the Hand Center of San Antonio, obtaining his Subspecialty Certificate in Surgery of the Hand in 1994.

During his distinguished career, Dr. McNamara served with distinction in the US Air Force from 1988 to 1999, including a pivotal role as Chief of Orthopedics at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage from 1997 to 1999. Subsequently, he transitioned to Washington State, where he contributed significantly to orthopedic care at The Everett Clinic, assuming leadership as Chief of Orthopedics from 2001 to 2002.

In 2002, Dr. McNamara returned to Alaska with his family, founding a specialized clinic dedicated to hand, elbow, and shoulder surgeries. Beyond clinical practice, he is recognized for his innovative contributions to surgical instrumentation, securing three patents since 2013, each aimed at advancing the field of scapholunate ligament repair.
